Before Christmas Eve, Mike and I checked out this new restaurant that just opened a few weeks ago in Philly. This place is called Banh Mi & Bottles, which serves Vietnamese cuisine. Banh Mi & Bottles is different from many Vietnamese restaurants because it offers a new way to experience street Vietnamese food. By this experience, I mean that this restaurant has an industrial, urban décor. They serve alcoholic drinks, which is great because not many Vietnamese restaurants do so. Not only do they have a drink menu, but they also have an assortment of beers that you can choose from to take a 6-pack to go! How cool is that?!
For dinner, we both ordered a banh mi with pho brisket. It was amazing. The baguette was incredibly soft with just the perfect amount of crunch. The meats were very tender. We dipped our banh mi into the pho broth. Yumm!!!
On their menu, they also have other varieties of banh mi sandwiches, pho, summer rolls, etc. According to the waitress, the menu is still a work in progress and not yet final. Therefore, their menu is not yet posted online. The prices are a little more expensive than most authentic Vietnamese places, but I think it is because this place is a slightly fancier restaurant that is supposed to target young, city folks.
Mike ordered some type of IPA. I forget the name of it though, but it was pretty good. As for my drink, I ordered an AMAZING mixed bourbon drink that is served in a coconut!!! I was super excited. I saw pics of this coconut drink on social media so I was ecstatic to give it a try. I typically don’t drink bourbon, but whatever they mixed in made it quite delicious…. I tasted some lime juice, mint and other fruit juices.
After we paid for our check, Mike and I grabbed a 6-pack of assorted beers to go as well. The waitress there was very helpful because she gave her personal suggestions and picked out bottles for us based on the types of beers we like. They also carry some beers that you often don’t find here on the east coast.
Overall, I had a great experience here. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food is good. The drinks that we had were delicious. The look and feel of this restaurant is new and different from most authentic Vietnamese restaurants. If you’re ever in the area, I suggest giving this place a try!
